First Visit

Guide To Your First Visit at Innovative Implant and Oral Surgery

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your surgical referral slip and any X-rays if applicable
  • A list of medications you are presently taking
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
  • Many procedures performed in our office are covered by your MEDICAL insurance. If you have a referral based medical plan (e.g. Keystone Healthplan East and Aetna HMO) you will be required to obtain a referral from your primary care physician for the first visit. The procedures commonly covered by medical insurance are: impacted third molar (wisdom) teeth, TMJ evaluation and appointments for examination and removal of oral lesions. If you have any questions about this please call our office.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the consultation visit.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (e.g. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.)

Medications

  • If you currently take blood thinners please call and notify our staff prior to your visit.
  • Take all medications, including blood pressure medication that you normally take in the morning. If you are required to take antibiotics prior to dental treatment (for artificial heart valves, joints, etc.) please do so 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to your visit. If you will be undergoing I.V. sedation or general anesthesia, take your medication with the smallest sip of water possible 2 hours prior to your appointment.
  • If you are pregnant please obtain written clearance from your obstetrician prior to your surgery.
  • If you are currently breastfeeding and are undergoing I.V. sedation or general anesthesia please pump to obtain a supply for 24 hours while your body metabolizes and eliminates the anesthetic agents.

X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
